Seacon buys chemical tankers in leaseback deal with Union Maritime

On November 7, Seacon Shipping Group Holdings Limited issued an announcement, “Discloseable Transaction Acquisition of Two Vessels”.

The announcement disclosed that Golden Iris Ships Ltd. and Golden Jasmine Ships Ltd., indirect wholly-owned subsidiaries of Intercontinental Shipping, intend to acquire one vessel each from Union Maritime, a UK-based bulk carrier and tanker company, at a cost of US$14 million each.

The two vessels acquired are both tankers/chemical tankers with a gross tonnage of 11,271 tons built in 2012 by Taizhou Sanfu Shipbuilding.

Both vessels should be delivered in December this year. As part of the deal, Union Maritime will charter back the 16,800 dwt duo for two years at A$16,250 per day with a one-year extension option at A$16,500 per day.
